La Corte del Lago

Oliveto Lario is the only single country located on this side of the lake, from Lecco to Bellagio. It is been established on 1927 and it is composed by three villages: Limonta, Vassena and Onno. These places present Roman settlements: Avelli stones, tombs and votive are. The position of Onno was originally different from the present one; the village was placed near the S. Anna little church. In 1896 due to a flood of the little lake on the Madonna del Castagno the village has been totally destroyed and then it has been rebuilt few kilometres in the north , under the big stone. The name itself of the village suggests to the people how mild the weather is here; the farming of the olive trees, that has been brought by the Romans, is today still alive and it yields 200 quintals of olive per year; taste its special and special flavour! THINGS TO SEE: Chiesa di San Pietro in Onno: the little church has been built in Baroque style even if in the inside you will find medieval wall paintings. In the 1500’s, for a short time , it has been used as cloister but the nuns moved to Valsassina and from then on is has always been used as church. Chiesa di S Ambrogio e Bernardo in Limonta: the church is located in the centre of Limonta ; the building has Middle Ages origin but it has been rebuilt in 1673 thanks to Abbot Rinaldi’s will. The porch represents the four evangelists, S Giorgio and S Ambrogio and introduces in an unique chamber which is featured by 600’s elements. The chancel is a superb example of baroque for both marble walls and plastering, printings and sculptures. Santuario dell’Annunciata e del Moletto: the holy place has been built in the 1606 on a big rock on a peak on the lake on the border with Bellagio. The wall painting in the apse traces the origin of this period. The Santuario is composed by two different and overlapping chapels : the lower one built in the 1606 and the upper one, which dated 1624, has an altar of the XIII century and a cycle of wall paintings that symbolized many events of Virgin Mary’s life manufactured by Recchi. Two portals introduce in the façade and on the flank which can be reached by a staircase that come up from a little landing stage named "Moletto"
